Nachdem er zunächst 1986 in St. Tropez selbst entworfene Badeshorts und Anfang der Neunziger Jahre Bandanatücher verkaufte, landete Bart Koene schließlich über Umwege bei handgefertigten Strickaccessoires für den Winter und gründete 1992 das Modeunternehmen Barts.
